Go to your desktop and use the shortcut key strokes, Shift+Command+N or go to File>New Folder. If you don't have any for the purposes of this tutorial, just create three or four untitled folders on your desktop. Select New Document in the window that pops up when you first open Automator.įirst you will need a set of files or folders to rename.

Launch the Automator application, located in the Applications folder. It's easy to use this workflow as a starting point and modify it to meet your needs. The Rename File and Folders workflow in Automator can create sequential file or folder names. In the pop-up menu below Rename Finder Items, choose to replace text in the names, add text to the names, or change the name format. In the shortcut menu, choose Rename Items. Rename multiple items On your Mac, select the items, then Control-click one of them. Select the items you want to rename Choose “Rename Items…” from the Finder’s File menu Make some choices in the box that appears Click the Rename button. Remember, in order to rename multiple files, they must be the same type. Open the folder where the files you want to change are stored.
